Formerly known as the Global 7000, the Bombardier Global 7500 ultra long-range business jet is one that I’ve been itching to make templates for. Of course, I knew very little about it until I actually sat down to create the illustrations.

As embarrassing as it may sound, I didn’t even know that the official name for this thing was “Global 7500” until this very moment. I started this blog post thinking that I was writing about the “Global Express 7000”, but thanks to Wikipedia, I discovered just how misinformed I was. Par for the course when it comes to me and my pea-sized brain I guess.

Despite not knowing the proper name for it, there was one thing I learned about the Global 7500 right off the bat: it’s a gorgeous airplane! It sort of reminds me of what a blended CRJ-200 and Gulfstream G650ER would look like if they hooked up in a dark hangar late one night and made babies. From a distance (and perhaps a squinted eye), the 7500 could be easily mistaken for either one of those two aircraft.

Personally, I find the Global 7500 to be a much better looking business jet than the Cessna Citation X. It’s sleek, well-proportioned, and (if I’m being honest) it would look great parked next to the Lamborghini Huracan I’m going to buy when I win the lottery. It’s just a matter of time…

What exactly is the Global 7500?

As I’ve already mentioned, the Bombardier Global 7500 is a long-range business jet. It’s the successor to Bombardier’s Global 6000 (which succeeded the Global 5000), and it entered service in December 2018.

Interestingly enough, the 7500 program was announced in October 2010. Back then, it was called the “7000” (as one might expect since it was an evolution of the 6000).

Bombardier had originally planned to have this aircraft in the hands of it’s customers by mid 2016, but a full wing redesign during the development process delayed the launch of the program by two years. As a designer myself, I can tell you from experience that these things happen.

The Global 7500 has a range of 7,700 mi (14,300 km), giving it the range to fly ultra-long routes such as Los Angeles to Sydney nonstop. Or Ft Wayne to Beirut (if you’re so inclined). Smaller business jets such as the Learjet 45 can’t come anywhere close to that amount of range.

Other neat facts about the Global 7500

The more I read about the 7500, the more interesting it becomes. With its ultra long range and high tech features, I can’t help to think that this is going to be the private jet I buy right after winning the lottery. The Lambo comes first of course – but the 7500 is pretty high up on my shopping list for sure. Here’s an assortment of neat facts about it:

  • It’s official designation during the development process was BD-700-2A12
  • The wings are a transonic design
  • Former F1 driver Niki Lauda was the launch customer
  • The reason for the wing redesign midway through development was to reduce weight without affecting aerodynamics
  • It has the same fuselage diameter of other Global Express models, although the internal structure is thinner
  • It features 30% better low-speed lift thanks to a more efficient flap design
  • It is 11’-3” (3.43 m) longer than the Global 6000
  • It has an 11% higher MTOW (Maximum Takeoff Weight) than the Gulfstream G650ER
  • Each passenger window is 300 sq in, and is a whopping 80% larger than the windows on the 6000
  • The fly-by-wire system is very similar to the system found in the CSeries
  • The entire airframe is constructed of aluminum-lithium alloys
  • The volume of the passenger cabin measures 2,637 sq ft (74.67 sq m)
  • A shower and crew rest area are optional (options I’m totally going to spring for in mine, of course)

What is the next Norebbo side view aircraft template going to be?

I got a request to do side view templates of the Irkut MC21-300 in the comment section of my Comac C919 template post, and I don’t think I’m going to be able to resist doing that one. It’s another airplane that I know absolutely nothing about and (assuming I can find enough reference material) I’m excited to get started on it.

After that, I’ll likely be doing the Dassault Falcon 50 EX. It’s a good feeling knowing I’m making progress towards building out my collection of business jet side view templates!

  1. Despite having really little chance of ever having enough money to buy long-range aircraft, I’ve always been rather interested by long range business jets, even though I’ll probably never even see one IRL. But having enough range to go A LOT of places without stopping really is appealing to me. The Global 7500 has a even longer ranged, but shorter, sister, the Global 8000 with nearly 8000 miles of range. Truly amazing.

    1. You and me both Alan! Maybe we could pool our money and buy a slightly used one? Haha…a pipe dream for sure.

  2. Congratulations! You just made Oprah’s private jet! (Really) Awesome Job! You do wonders with these templates.
