Mobile addiction is something I think that we can all relate to in one form or another. Take my friend’s wife for instance – she’s about as anti-tech as anyone could possibly be and is probably the most “analog” person I’ve ever known (besides my grandparents, but that doesn’t count). Her main hobby is writing, and…she does it all by hand with her favorite ink pen and paper notebooks. Never mind the fact that she’s the proud owner of a shiny new MacBook Air which could handle such tasks with ease, she enjoys the overall experience of writing slowly and carefully without the need for a quick and easy way to get it done.
However, she cannot live without her iPhone. She loves the fact that email, photos, and long distance calls to friends and family are just a reach away in one small and convenient package. Funny how that works, eh?
That said, this set of mobile technology addiction illustrations was inspired by her. I’ve wanted to do a set like this for a long time, but for some reason or another I found myself getting off track every time I started out to make a 3d illustration of a prescription medication bottle. It’s not like it was all that difficult to create – after all, it’s just a transparent orange cylinder with a simple white cap. Sometimes the easiest things are the hardest to get done!
Each one of these three illustrations features the logo for one of the three most popular mobile OS platforms today: Android, Apple / iOS, and Windows 8. Sorry Blackberry, you didn’t make the cut! Well, that’s not as harsh as it sounds because I’ll probably end up doing a Blackberry version soon – and you can find it on my online store as soon as it’s done. Anyway, the prescription label on the bottle is custom for each one, and the little white pills spilling out of that overturned bottle have the logo of the associated mobile platform printed on them.
